31.8.11

Well, it's been a week. Much has changed... I'm minus my vintage black and white Ray Bans (currently lost in Kensington somewhere...) and plus a sore throat (courtesy of Mendelssohn's Elijah...). Ah well, life goes on.

This weekend I'm embarking on a short trip to an outdoor-adventure centre. You know the sort: a gang of teenagers are thrown head-first into a muddy swamp in the hope that it will build character, or create an un-breakable life bond between them. In this case, the desired outcome is the latter, as the purpose of this excursion is to help my school's new sixth form 'bond'.

As I'm sure you can imagine, fashion and the aesthetic don't reign victorious on these trips, so expect some thoroughly hilarious snaps documenting my attempts at style (ahem) whilst swinging from trees, or whatever non-hipster friendly activities they have in store for us...

The trip will however be a great opportunity to put some of my most loved/trusted/absolutely couldn't live without (to the extent that when I've run out in the past I've been known to shed a tear or two) beauty products through their paces under, whilst not quite extreme, far from normal conditions! Updates to follow...

I also thought I'd post a picture of my current hair colour (needs a cut - getting one tomorrow!) as it's pretty hip (in my opinion.).

Amazing Jumper. End of.

P.S I have no idea what's going on with my eyes up there. Sorry if anybody finds it alarming. Ditto the hair.

P.P.S There will be no post until NEXT WEEK. I have a tough week ahead in London with school, doing a performance, recording a CD and generally attempting to be a Hipster.

21.8.11

Prepare yourselves hipsters, today's post is actually a beauty-related post.

As well as buying far too many clothes (ahem...), I also spend far too much time and money (again, ahem...) on beauty products. Every now and then I stumble across a product that actually does what it promises to do, which helps nurse my guilt of buying 'just another' moisturiser.

Yesterday, I did just that. I was casually browsing in Sally Salon Services whilst popping in to pick up a tube of toner for my tresses.

As I'm sure you can tell, my hair colour is not natural, and it takes a hell of a lot of processing to achieve it. Bleaching, tinting and regular heat styling has left my barnet in a very sorry state. The rather lovely and helpful shop assistant heard my woes, and recommended a strengthening treatment that they stocked.

'AGE beautiful''s 'intense strengthening treatment' promises to 'Instantly repair dry, damaged hair with phyto-collagen & keratin peptide enriched formula.'
I'd never heard of the range 'AGE beautiful', I assume it's a small-ish brand only stocked in Sally's, but ever the optimist I went ahead and bought it. And boy I'm glad I did!
The product itself is thicker than any hair treatment I've ever used, it's almost like a balm, and smells oh so lovely. I left it on for 10 minutes, and my hair feels so soft and in better condition than it did 10 minutes ago...

The best bit? It's less than £7.

20.08.11

My sincere apologies for the lack of posts this week, I've been terribly bus... I won't even try to make excuses. *slaps wrist*

This weekend I'm in Northumberland staying with my Auntie, which is why today's outfit post was taken in the middle of a field. I was just setting off for a little shopping trip to Newcastle, a trip that proved very successful in stemming the brewing exam-result stress/anxiety/sheer terror that seems to have infatuated my entire being.

It ain't called retail therapy for no reason.

Coloured jeans. Yes or no? They can add a pop of colour to an otherwise bland outfit. They can also make you look like an overly optimistic, happy-clappy fool.

I'm the latter. Obviously.

12.08.11

I'm currently on holiday in Somerset (insert 'farmer' accent), and am attempting to look hip whilst also staying comfortable (miles of walking - getting everywhere in Somerset involves some form of a trek!). Spray on skinnies are all very well and good when one has taxies/buses/chauffeur driven limos , but when stomping through a field of cows, more practical trousers are needed...

Why hello.

So, I'm just sat here wallowing in my hip-ness.

(Or so I'd like to think).

Welcome to Confessions of a Wannabe Hipster, my blog with which I aim to document my life/style/attempts at being a hipster. Expect regular outfit posts, musings and the odd how-to guide to DIY fashion/beauty techniques, in which I will be treating myself as a fashion guinea pig...

My style isn't what most people would call 'normal'. I've tried and failed to stereotype myself; I'm not really Indie, definitely not Emo, and (much as it pains me to admit it) I'm not quite a Hipster.

But I've not given up yet...
